Ingredients
- ⅔ cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ⅔ cup zero-calorie all-natural brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons water
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons coarse salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the apple sauce, vanilla extract, and water.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in half of the chocolate chips.
- Scoop out 16 cookie balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Wet your hands slightly and press the cookies down to form rounds.
- Top with the remaining chocolate chips and sprinkle with coarse salt, if using.
- Bake for 7 minutes, then let cool completely on the baking sheet (they will continue to cook while cooling).
