Peach Cobbler is a beloved southern dessert enjoyed worldwide, featuring warm, sweet peaches under a delicious cobbler-style crust. Whether you use canned, frozen, or fresh peaches, this recipe will guide you in making the best southern peach cobbler for any occasion!

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling:

  • 2 bags frozen peaches (20 ounces each)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional but recommended)
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ½ stick unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

For the Cobbler Topping:

  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (reserve ½ for garnishing)
  • 1 stick cold unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup boiling hot water (see notes)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar (to dust the top of the cobbler)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick spray. In the dish, combine the peaches, sugars, vanilla, almond extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, cream of tartar, butter, water, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined.
  3. Cover the dish with foil and bake the peach mixture for 20 minutes.
  4. While the peaches are baking, mix the flour, both sugars, baking powder, salt, and ½ tablespoon of cinnamon in a bowl.
  5. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your hands until it resembles coarse meal or crumbs.
  6. Stir in the hot water until just combined; the cobbler mixture should have a drop biscuit-like texture.
  7. Remove the peaches from the oven and spoon the dough mixture over the top. Form each dough drop about the size of a golf ball, leaving some space between them for even cooking.
  8. The peaches will not be fully covered. Combine the remaining ½ tablespoon cinnamon with the sugar and sprinkle it over the dough.
  9. Bake uncovered for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

Enjoy your delicious Peach Cobbler!
