Take eggs on hand and first check whether the shell is cracked, slimy or not. Sliminess or cracks can indicate the presence of bacteria in it.

Put the eggs in a bowl of water and check whether the egg sinks or floats. If the egg sinks completely then it is fresh, If it floats then you can say it is old.

In a dark room hold the large end of an egg up to a light source then, tilt the egg from left to right, if it is fresh or has small white or light yellow spots, especially with fewer movements of the yolk.  But, if it has large dark spots or discolouration, you can say the egg is not fresh.
