This beef and bowtie pasta recipe is hearty, easy, and loaded with melty cheese and flavor. A family-friendly weeknight favorite!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz bowtie pasta farfalle
  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 or lean
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 can 15 oz crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup beef broth or water optional, for extra sauciness
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional

For Finishing

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan
  • Fresh parsley or basil chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Pasta

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil
  • Add bowtie pasta and cook until just al dente
  • Drain and set aside

Step 2: Brown the Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned
  • Break it apart as it cooks
  • Drain excess fat if needed

Step 3: Sauté the Aromatics

  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet
  • Cook 3–4 minutes until softened and fragrant

Step 4: Build the Sauce

  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, beef broth (if using), Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes
  • Simmer 8–10 minutes to let flavors blend
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper

Step 5: Combine & Melt

  • Add the cooked pasta to the sauce
  • Stir until pasta is evenly coated
  • Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan over the top
  • Cover the skillet and let cheese melt for 2–3 minutes

Step 6: Serve & Enjoy

  • Sprinkle fresh parsley or basil over the top
  • Serve hot with extra cheese on the side if desired
