Make-ahead Berry French Toast Casserole baked with cinnamon, vanilla custard, and fresh berries. A cozy breakfast or brunch perfect for feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 12 –14 cups French bread cubed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup strawberries sliced
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 1 –2 tbsp powdered sugar for garnish
  • Maple syrup to serve

Instructions

Prepare the Dish:

  • Grease a 9x13" baking dish with butter or oil. Add cubed French bread, filling about ¾ full.

Make the Custard:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar until smooth.

Assemble:

  • Pour custard mixture over the bread cubes. Top with sliced strawberries and blueberries.

Chill:

  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.

Bake:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake uncovered for 35–50 minutes, checking at the 35-minute mark. The top should be golden and set.

Serve:

  • Dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.

Notes

Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best texture.
Want extra crispiness? Sprinkle with turbinado sugar before baking.
Add a handful of raspberries or blackberries for a berry mix.
