Creamed chipped beef in a creamy white sauce over toast. A timeless, savory and comforting dish that’s easy to make at home for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz dried beef jar or packet, chopped into pieces
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 Tbsp all‑purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream optional, for extra richness
  • Pepper to taste
  • 4 ‑6 slices of bread toasted

Instructions

Step 1: Melt Butter & Make Roux

  • In a skillet or saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add flour and whisk to combine. Cook for about 1‑2 minutes, stirring, until the flour loses its raw taste.

Step 2: Add Liquids

  • Slowly whisk in the milk, then heavy whipping cream (if using). Stir constantly to avoid lumps. Bring mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Step 3: Season & Thicken

  • Add pepper to taste. Continue whisking until sauce thickens to your desired consistency — it should coat the back of a spoon but still be pourable.

Step 4: Stir in Dried Beef

  • Add the chopped dried beef to the sauce. Reduce heat slightly and cook for another 3‑5 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the beef warms through and flavors meld.

Step 5: Toast the Bread & Serve

  • While sauce is finishing, toast your bread slices to a golden crisp. Spoon the creamed chipped beef generously over each piece of toast. Serve immediately.
