This Quick & Easy Homemade Butter Chicken is a labor of love designed to bring the vibrant flavors of a favorite Indian restaurant right into your own kitchen. The secret lies in a velvety, golden-orange sauce that balances a rich, buttery base with a gentle aromatic heat.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken breasts or thighs cut into 1-inch bites
  • 1.5 cups tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 1.5 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish
  • Cooked rice and naan bread for serving

Instructions

  • Sear: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then sear for 5–6 minutes until golden brown.
  • Aromatics: Add minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Spices: Stir in the tomato puree, garam masala, and turmeric, coating the chicken thoroughly.
  • Cream: Reduce heat to medium-low. Pour in the heavy cream and add the butter.
  • Simmer: Simmer gently for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened into a rich lacquer.
  • Serve: Garnish with fresh herbs and serve immediately over warm rice with a side of naan bread.
