Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 10 –12 shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • cups chopped onions and bell peppers
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil divided
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper optional

Instructions

Season & Cook the Shrimp

  • Toss shrimp with seafood seasoning.
  • Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink. Remove and set aside.

Brown the Meat

  • Add remaining 1 tbsp oil to the same skillet.
  • Brown ground beef and sausage, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
  • Stir in onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook 5 minutes until softened.

Add Seasonings & Flour

  • Sprinkle in oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  • Stir in flour to coat the mixture and help thicken.

Simmer with Broth

  • Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  • Cook 5–7 minutes, letting flavors meld and broth slightly reduce.

Combine with Rice

  • Add cooked rice to the skillet, stirring well to coat with the sauce.
  • Simmer another 5 minutes so the rice absorbs the flavors.

Finish with Shrimp

  • Fold shrimp back into the skillet.
  • Stir gently, ensuring everything is evenly combined.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!
