This aloo matar recipe is a simple but delicious curry recipe where potatoes and green peas are cooked in spicy tomato onion gravy.

Ingredients

  • 200 gram green peas [fresh or frozen ]
  • 3 large size potatoes chopped [ 2 inch ]
  • 1 medium size onion [ chopped ]
  • 4 medium size tomato [ puree ]
  • 4 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies [ chopped ]
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • salt as required
  • 1/2 tablespoons kasuri methi or dry fenugreek leaves
  • 3 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves or cilantro

Instructions

  • At first to prepare aromatic masala paste for the aloo matar recipe heat oil in a pan.
  • Now add 1 bay leaf and sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cumin seed, saute them till they began to splutter.
  • After that add 1 large size chopped onion, and saute in medium to low flame till slightly golden brown.
  • Next, add ginger garlic paste and chopped green chilies and saute them for some time till the raw smell disappears.
  • Now add tomato puree and cook properly for 7 to 8 min till the raw smell of tomatoes goes away completely.
  • At this stage sprinkle a few teaspoons red chili powder , turmeric powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder. and salt to taste.
  • Now you can add a dash of water and cook this aromatic tomato onion mixture for a further 4 to 5 min on medium to low flame until the mixture gets thickened and oil separates from the gravy.
  • Now for making aloo matar gravy add quarter-cut potatoes, and green peas either fresh or frozen.
  • Next, saute this aloo mutter mixture for another 5 to 6 min until it cooked properly.
  • After that pour water, sprinkle more salt and check the taste.
  • Then cover the pan with a lid and cook this aloo matar curry for some time until aloo is soft.
  • For additional flavour sprinkle kasuri methi and freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  • Finally, our delicious aloo mutter recipe is completed. Serve it hot immediately with rice , roti,paratha

Aloo Matar Recipe Note

  1. If you want to use parboil potatoes use them, but make sure they are all-dente before adding matar gravy.
  2. If you don't have fresh green peas, you also use frozen peas.
