Ingredients

Tomato rice ingredients

  • 10 to 12 cashew
  • 25 grams peanut
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 4 clove
  • 4 cardamom
  • 2 inch cinnamon
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • 2 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 10 to 12 fresh curry leaves
  • Pinch of hing
  • 250 grams basmati rice
  • 700 ml water to cook
  • 3 large tomato puree
  • 1 large size onion [ thinly sliced ]
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 3 chopped green chili
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seed
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preparation for tomato bath
  • At first for preparing tomato bath thoroughly wash basmati rice then soak in water for at least 30 min.
  • Now melt butter in a pan and saute cashew and peanut till they are crunchy.

Gravy for thakkali sadam

  • Now for cooking gravy for thakkali sadam in the same pan saute clove, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaf, cumin seed, and mustard seed.
  • Next fresh curry leaves, pinch of hing stir them till crisp.
  • After that cook thinly sliced onion till light golden brown.
  • Furthermore add chopped green chili , ginger garlic paste and saute more till the raw smell disappear.
  • Now pour tomato puree along with a pinch of salt and cook till it thickens.
  • Next add turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and fennel seed.
  • Cook until the raw smell of tomatoes is gone and oil starts releasing from masala.
  • Now pour water add pinch of salt and bring it to a rolling boil.

  • Now for making tomato rice recipe add drained basmati rice to this tomato gravy.
  • Cover and cook tomato rice on low flame until all water is absorbed and rice is cooked properly it takes 10 to 15 min depending upon your container.
  • Finally, add some roasted nuts and mix them properly with tomato rice.

  1. If you don't have fresh tomatoes then you can easily add 250 grams canned tomatoes.
