ย

Why gulab jamun is hard

Gulab jamun becomes hard because of a lack of moisture in the dough, which generally occurs either by using a lot of flour than required or improperly using baking soda.

Fix it by using milk and gently knead it until the dough becomes smooth and soft.

ย

What to serve with gulab jamun

ย You can serve vanilla ice cream with gulab jamun by garnishing with sliced pistachios on the top.

ย

Why gulab jamun breaks

Gulab jamuns break either using a lot of baking soda than required which is unable to retain their round shape while frying or sugar syrup consistency is not sticky which ultimately transforms the gulab jamun balls soft and mushy after adding in syrup.

Tips to make gulab jamun recipe with milk powder

ย

  • Crack free gulab jamun ball : Pour the warm milk and a teaspoon of all-purpose flour with the dough, gently mix the dough, and keep it at rest for at least 25 min to 30 min which ultimately helps to prepare smooth crack-free balls.

ย

  • Oil temperature :ย For cooking gulab jamun balls without breaking, first, heat the ghee or oil on medium flame for at least 4 to 5 min, then make the flame low and add the Jamun balls one by one and fry on both sides until it becomes golden brown on both sides.

ย

  • Sugar syrup consistency :ย To properly soak fried gulab jamun balls in sugar syrup we need only a little bit of sticky consistency by simmering sugar syrup aka chasni for at least 7 to 8 min. Here you can simply ignore any string consistency of thick sugar syrup that Jamun balls will never absorb.

ย

  • Soaking gulab jamun balls: For making a succulent gulab jamun recipe, while adding fried gulab jamun balls sugar syrup temperature must be warm not hot where gulab jamuns are likely to lose their shape.
