Here,the whole preparation process of matar paneer recipes into three simple categories,

first one is frying paneer cube or indian cottage cheese,

second one making tomato-onion paste,

and

the last one is making matar paneer gravy

so,lets make it now.

 

Frying Paneer 

1.For frying fresh paneer cube heat 2 tbsp butter in a pan and melt the butter in medium to low flame.

Note: don’t make the flame high,it will burn your butter which tastes bitter.

 

2.Now, add 200 gm fresh paneer cube in this pan,fry them medium to low flame.

3.Flip them after 1 to 2 min then cook the both side until it becomes slightly golden brown.

Note: fry the paneer cube only 3 to 4 min in medium to low flame,don’t over fry them,

if you do your paneer becomes hard and chewy.

 

4.Then,take out the fried paneer cube from the pan and place in the kitchen tissue to drain off the excess oil from the paneer.

Making Onion-Tomato Paste

 

1.For preparing smooth paste of matar paneer gravy add 3 tbsp oil in the same pan and spread them thoroughly.

2.Now,add 2 medium size chopped onions and saute 3 to 4 min in medium flame until it becomes slightly golden brown.

3.Next,add 3 medium size finely chopped deseeded tomatoes,1/6 tsp turmeric powder,salt to taste,mix them well and cook them in medium to low flame upto 3 to 4 min.

Note: If you want to use cashew nut in your matar paneer recipe,before using it soak them in hot water upto 20 to 30 min then add in pan and mix everything well.

 

4.Now,cool this mixture and put into blender.

5.Make a smooth tomato onion paste for mutter paneer gravy.

Making Matar Paneer Gravy

 

1.Now,for preparing spicy gravy for mutter paneer,heat 3 tbsp oil in that same pan and spread the oil.

2.Then,add some whole spices including 1 small bay leaf or tej patta,4 to 5 green cardamom,1 inch cinnamon and saute them in medium flame upto 45 sec to 1 min.

3.Next,add the tomato-onion puree,in this pan and saute in medium flame upto 2 to 3 min.

4.Then ,add some spice powder including 1 tsp red chili powder,½ tsp garam masala powder,1 tsp coriander powder and mix them well for another 1 min in medium to low flame .

5.After that,add ½ -1 cup (adjust as per your requirement )fresh or frozen green peas or green matar (boiled previously) and mix them in matar paneer masala.

6.Now,add 1 ½ to 2  cup water in this pan adjust as per your gravy requirement.

7.Then,cover the pan and simmer for another 12-15 min for soft matar paneer gravy.

Note: If you want to use pressure cooker then pour the mixture in it and cook for 2 to 3  whistle until mutter peas are cooked.

 

8.When matar is completely cooked,add fried paneer cube in this matar gravy and gently mix them for another 2-3 min in low flame.

9.If you want restaurant style matar paneer ,you can add 3 tbsp heavy cream in your matar paneer and mix them well.

10.Finally,for garnishing matar paneer you can sprinkle some kasuri methi,chopped coriander leaves or spring onions.

  • 1 bay-leaf or tej-patta.
  • 2-3 green cardamom or elaichi.
  • ½ tsp cumin seed or shah jeera. [optional]
  • 1 inch cinnamon or dalchini.
  • 2-3 cloves or laung.
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder .
  • 1 tsp coriander powder .
  • ½ tsp garam masala powder .
  • 1/6 tsp turmeric powder.
  • 1 tsp dry fenugreek leaves or kasuri methi. [optional]
  • 2 medium size finely chopped onions.
  • 3 medium size finely chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves or dhania patta.
  • 2-3 vertically sliced green chilli or hari mirch.
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic or adrak lahsun paste .
  • 200 gm fresh paneer or indian cottage cheese.
  • ½ -1 cup fresh or frozen green peas [adjust as per need]
  • 4 tbsp oil .
  • 2 tbsp butter.
  • 10-12 warm water soaked cashew nut [optional]
  • 1 ½ - 2 cup water [adjust as per gravy need]

Instructions

    How to make matar paneer recipe at home ?

    1. At first,for preparing matar paneer, heat 2 tbsp butter in a pan or kadai in medium flame.
    2. Then add paneer or Indian cottage cheese and fry in medium to low flame until both side slightly golden brown.
    3. Now,pick the fried paneer and drain off in kitchen tissue for removing excess oil.
    4. After that, add oil in same pan and spread them thoroughly.
    5. Then,add chopped onions,ginger garlic paste and saute in medium flame until it becomes slightly golden brown.
    6. Next,add chopped tomatoes,salt,turmeric powder mix them well and cook in medium flame until it becomes soft & mushy.
    7. If you want to use cashew nut,you can add now  in this pan and mix them well.
    8. Furthermore, cool this mixture and put into blender make a smooth paste for mutter paneer.
